Summer Works 2015

As part of the University’s ongoing commitment to providing world-class teaching and research facilities, the Estates & Commercial Facilities team will carry out a number of improvement projects during the 2015 summer vacation period.

The team is making every effort to minimise disruption to students and staff. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.

This year’s summer works include:

Science Centre Refurbishment

We will reconfigure and upgrade the ground and second main floor laboratories to improve the teaching facilities for the Schools of Chemistry, Life Sciences and Pharmacy.

Project duration: 90 days from Monday 11 May 2015

Joseph Banks Laboratories – Fitout of Fallow Spaces

JBL includes fallow spaces to allow for expansion of Chemistry, Life Sciences and Pharmacy activities. We will fit these out to provide new teaching, research and office space for the three Schools.

Project duration: 150 days from Tuesday 26 May 2015

Minerva Building Lifts Refurbishment

We will replace both lifts and lift shafts in the Minerva Building with higher-specification modern equipment to accommodate the increased student and staff numbers in the building.

Project duration: 90 days from Monday 25 May 2015

Student Village Refurbishment – Courts 13-17

As part of the ongoing refurbishments to the Student Village, Courts 13-17 will have their en-suite bathrooms replaced this summer. We will be replacing 383 bathrooms in total.

Project duration: 55 days from Monday 22 June 2015

LPAC Practice Room

We will install a five-person soundproofed practice room in the LPAC for the School of Performing Arts. The practice room will be modular with the flexibility to be relocated as Music activities grow.

Communications, Development & Marketing Office Reconfiguration

With the growing number of staff in the Communications, Development & Marketing department, there is a requirement to refurbish the existing office to improve space efficiency. Ventilation and lighting systems will also be upgraded.

Project duration: 60 days from Monday 25 May 2015

David Chiddick Building Learning Lounge

This project involves various enhancements to the Learning Lounge area on the ground floor of the David Chiddick Building.

Project duration: 35 days from Monday 13 July 2015

Media, Humanities and Technology Office Subdivision

We will optimise existing office space on the ground floor to improve space efficiency.

Duration of project – 35 days from Monday 6th July 2015

Science Bridge Refurbishments

The Science Bridge provides a vital link between the two halves of the campus. We will refurbish the bridge as part of our lifecycle maintenance programme. We will also upgrade the lighting systems on the bridge.

Duration of project – 65 days from Monday 15 June 2015

Art, Architecture & Design Window Actuators

We will install new window actuators to improve the thermal response of the Atrium in the AAD Building.

Media, Humanities & Technology Newsroom 1 Refurbishment

Duration of project – 50 days from Monday 22nd June 2015

Five-a-side Pitches Refurbishments

Duration of project – 4 weeks

Library Turnstile Replacement

We will replace the Library turnstiles with new Glasswing turnstiles to improve wheelchair accessibility, speed up ingress and egress for all Library users, and improve reliability.
