Thank you all for your feedback on the trial furniture we introduced to the Atrium earlier in the summer.
For the first time we took feedback via Twitter (@LincolnEstates) as well as email. This worked well, so we expect to adopt this approach for future projects.
Here is a representative sample of your views:
From a member of staff:
Square tables great – much better than rectangular.
Chairs must be quiet in movement scraped across the floor (makes working in the psychology labs impossible at times in current noise of chairs and tables) and not too heavy. Personal comfort favourites are red with and without arms, followed by lime green and blue/ white, though blue/ white combo rather heavy to move around. Definitely not black with bits sticking out on metal legs unless these are to be holding rubber fixings – lethal to toes and shoes!
From another colleague:
Tables are too small for us – we frequently meet in groups of 6+.
From a student:
Love the new furniture in the Atrium! Bright & cheerful, comfortable too!
A colleague:
Horrible colour [regarding the beige chairs] – no vibrancy. Plastic foot cantered over causing chair to rock.
Handle great for moving chairs.
From another colleague:
Much better, more colourful and more comfortable.
All of your feedback was collated and shared with the project manager as part of the decision-making process.
Here’s a preview of the selected furniture and how it will eventually be laid out in the Atrium.
The former coffee bar will be removed next week (13-17 August) and the walls will be painted the week after (20-24 August). The new furniture will arrive in October.
This is just the first phase of the programme to improve the Atrium – there’s much more to come next year. Follow @LincolnEstates on Twitter for updates.
Are those new staircases?
Yes and no. It’s proposed to relocate the staircases as part of the second phase – more to follow…
Really exciting to see these improvements taking place!
What will happen to the old Minerva painting?
Thanks Dave – yes, very! It’s such an important place for students, staff and visitors.
The Minerva painting will be taken down later this month before the walls are repainted.
Can the Minerva painting be re-homed somewhere? It was a final year management student project – would be a shame for it to be thrown away.
Dan: do you know any of the staff or students involved in the project? Drop me an email?
Is there scope to look for more power points? (of the electrical variety rather than .ppt)
I know we mainly just sit with the battery in our laptops but just incase we need to?
Thanks, Wez – yes, we’re looking into including additional power sockets in the first and / or second phase of improvements.
Is that bar style seating under the relocated staircases I can see, similar to those that are currently face the windows?
Thanks, Chris – the area underneath the relocated stairs hasn’t been fully designed yet, but we will keep this idea in mind and share further design updates as soon as poss.
Am I correct in thinking that the coffee bar is being taken out and not replaced? If so will there be any other provision for coffee and drinks after the Atrium food area closes each afternoon after lunch, in particular will there be anywhere to get a decent cappucino apart from the Costa machine in the shop?
Drew, yes – the coffee bar is about to be taken out. I’ve asked Chris Whaley for details on future coffee and drinks provision so he or I will respond more fully soon.
Drew
A smaller coffee bar will be incorporated in the second phase of the works so that refreshments are available after the main servery closes. The offer will be developed as part of the planning process, as we get better information about available space. The servery will have revised opening times until all the works are complete to ensure an offer is available in the afternoon.
PLEAE PLEASE can we have a large clock on the wall somewhere – there has been no clock in the Atrium for the last five years at least- VERY USEFUL FOR STAFF AND STUDENTS ALIKE
A +1 for this idea from me, would be great to know what time it is!
Great idea – this would be really useful.
I used to be able to see the clock on the wall at the back of the serving counter from the far side of the atrium, it was white with black numbers and hands, quite proud that amongst the other parts of my body that have failed over recent years my distance vision is still very good. However the clock got changed and is a strange brown colour so I now have to look at my watch!
Thanks all – we’ve taken this on board. This model gets my vote: http://www.momastore.org/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay_-Large-Swiss-Railway-Clock_10451_10001_54429_-1_26663_11551
