The new Animal Behaviour & Welfare Centre at Riseholme is on track to open on Monday 29 October now open.
The new building delivers 230 square metres of purpose-built space for animal (primarily canine) behaviour and welfare teaching and research within the School of Life Sciences. The facilities include:
- Two 85 sq m demo rooms, which are flexible areas usable for both teaching and research, and can be combined to form a single 170 sq m area when needed (photo below)
- A large viewing area with one-way mirrors to facilitate observation of activity in the demo rooms
- A recording space into which camera and microphone feeds can be routed to enable capture of research observations
- Ancillary spaces including a small prep kitchen, storage and WCs
The new facility enables continued growth in the University’s animal behaviour and welfare research, as well as postgraduate and undergraduate teaching. The development is part of a larger programme to develop new and improved facilities for the School of Life Sciences. Stay tuned for further updates on that during 2012/13.
