We would like to build thoughts about teaching, learning and knowledge into the fabric of the new teaching and learning spaces we are building this summer, in the form of graphics on the walls or windows.
What are your favourite quotations regarding teaching, learning or knowledge? Post them in the comments and there’s a chance they will appear on campus this September.
Here are a few to get you started:
“Our task is to communicate experience and ideas to others. We must strive continually to extend the scope of our description, but in such a way that our messages do not thereby lose their objective or unambiguous character … We are suspended in language in such a way that we cannot say what is up and what is down. The word “reality” is also a word, a word which we must learn to use correctly.” – Niels Bohr
“When philosophy paints its gloomy picture then a form of life has grown old. It cannot be rejuvenated by the gloomy picture, but only understood. Only when the dusk starts to fall does the owl of Minerva spread its wings and fly.” – Georg Hegel
“When students are creating themselves, learning is taking place. And teachers will be at the epicenter of this. Anyone who believes differently has never had a good teacher. I would trade all of my technology for an afternoon with Socrates.” – Steve Jobs
