We want to make it as easy as possible for you to book rooms, get support, and send feedback on rooms.
Here’s a working prototype of something we’re calling Room Service, which will work with the new room booking system currently being developed by ICT Services for launch in September.
1. Scan the QR code on the door of any room to bring up the Room Service menu:
2. Add Room Service to your home screen if you like, then tap on the service you need:
What do you think? Feedback and suggestions very welcome!
PS. Hat-tip to Nick Jackson for first introducing QR codes on campus.
Didn’t I suggest this a few years ago? ;-D
I still think its a great idea – the next step would be to connect straight to things like the space information and Support Desk. Give each room its own QR code, and it can pre-populate room details.
The pink is a touch violent on the eyes though.
You did! Years ahead of your time, Nick.
Thanks for the feedback. This is just a simple version of the idea that we can get working straight away without developer resources. Ideally it would display room information, including any open issues, and pre-populate the issue reporting / feedback forms.
I’m hoping we can attract a developer(s) to take this on as a project – and they get to choose the colours!
Glad to see we’ve got a lasting legacy (even if it is pink haha).
It would be good to get the room booking system out of the Portal and into something which uses the Common Web Design so that is mobile friendly.
Glad to see this happening!
You certainly have!
Funny you should mention that… ICT has a live project to develop a new web-based booking system for September – the next Project Board is on Wednesday.
Looks great… Can it be sold as a package to other institutions?
Thanks Wez 🙂 There’s nothing to sell, really – it’s just a web page with links to existing University systems… Should be really handy around campus though.
